Year 5-8 transition

Led by Alex Parry

The implementation of the new primary mathematics curriculum, in particular Age Related Expectations (ARE) and Teaching for Mastery have huge implications for primary and secondary colleagues, with regards to transition.

A clear view of where students are mathematically from one year group the the next and when students are ready to move on are key to successful transition.

Whilst there is lots of focus on primary phase currently, we need to ensure that this progress does not stop when students get to secondary phase.

An element of this work group is to bring more understanding of Teaching for Mastery into secondary settings, in order to improve transition.

Through this work group, we aim to ensure cross-phase collaboration and a greater understanding the journey for all phases.

We are keen to work with more secondary schools and academies who feel that they would benefit from learning more about the developments in the primary phase and the implications that this may have for both colleagues and students.
