Abby Cotton: Maths Hub Lead

Abby became Maths Hub Lead in April 2022, having been Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Primary/Secondary) for Boolean.

Previously Abby was a cohort 1 Primary Mastery Specialist and exemplified her understanding of maths education as a teacher and mathematics leader in a South Gloucestershire primary school. Abby is an experienced SLE and in her role as Assistant Maths Hub Lead, facilitates, supports and encourages the development of Teaching for Mastery across Primary and Secondary. She is passionate about achieving deep and sustainable learning in mathematics for all children and values the importance of professional development and collaboration between educators in all settings. 


Mike Eatwell: Senior Lead Link

Prior to joining the CLF, Mike led the primary teaching school across Bristol and before that was a Headteacher of a large and challenging inner city primary, moving the school from special measures to an Ofsted judgement of ‘Good’. Mike has a long association and interest in mathematics, particularly in Primary and the Early Years.  He was a leading maths teacher for the original primary mathematics strategy and subsequently a local authority maths consultant and subject adviser in both Cornwall and in Bristol. He was involved in supporting the implementation of mastery at the inception of the maths hub, visiting Shanghai in 2014 and welcoming Chinese teachers to his school at that time.  He has since been part of the hub’s strategic board and in his role as Deputy Director of the CLF Institute supports the hub as their Senior Lead Link.

Ieuan Pearse: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Post16) 

Ieuan Pearse studied Mathematics with Economics at Exeter University and became a maths teacher in 2008. He has spent most of his teaching career at Bristol Cathedral Choir School, helping the Maths Department receive a departmental Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating in 2012. In his time at Bristol Cathedral Choir School, Ieuan has led on developing maths across the curriculum, presented 100s of GCSE CPD and A-Level revision online videos for Pearson and Edexcel and has spent 5 years as a Staff Governor. Ieuan leads the Y13 provision at Bristol Cathedral Choir School including entry exams such as STEP and MAT and embedding technology into Post-16 learning. Ieuan joined the Boolean Maths Hub team as the Level 3 Lead in 2016.



Rachel Helme: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Secondary)

Rachel joined the Boolean Maths Hub, in 2015, as a participant in the KS3 Reasoning Work Group. Rachel has been the work group lead for the mathematical thinking work group since 2016, which has allowed her to develop an excellent understanding of the principles and strategies introduced, as well as support other new work group leads, across our region and nationally. Rachel is a PD Lead and after many years teaching in the region, is now completing a PHD at the University of Bristol. The focus of Rachel’s university research arose from conversations which happened during hub work group sessions about the challenges of working with students who were labelled as low attaining. Rachel has been appointed as Assistant Maths Hub Lead since September 2021 and is looking forward to sharing her academic understanding with the hub team.



Una Cumiskey: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Secondary) 

Una became a secondary maths teacher in 2011 after a 7-year career as a mechanical design engineer. She is a Cohort 4 Secondary Mastery Specialist and is currently running a teacher research group (TRG) with 2 other schools in Bristol, helping to introduce and embed teaching for mastery into their teaching. Una was appointed Assistant Maths Hub Lead in January 2022 and supports and encourages the development of teaching for mastery with new cohort specialist. She is passionate about all aspects of maths teaching and believes that all children can enjoy and succeed in maths.

Alex Parry: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Primary) 

Alex came to teaching following experience in sales and marketing in the business and charity sectors. She is knowledgeable about the pedagogy of teaching maths and enjoys working to improve staff subject knowledge. Pupil learning is at the heart of her work with teachers and school leaders from YR to KS3 and she has a particular interest in the transition of pupils from primary to secondary schools.

Jo Cronin: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Primary)

Jo Cronin was appointed an Assistant Maths Hub Lead for Somerset in February 2020, prior to that she has been part of the Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Maths (SKTM) team developing subject knowledge across the Hub for the past two years. Jo has significant experience as a Maths consultant working with schools in across the South West, starting out as a Primary Strategy Maths Consultant for Somerset LA in 2005 and then started working as a freelance adviser in 2010 offering support and training to schools.  Jo is passionate about improving outcomes for all children and changing mindsets to ensure that all children access mathematics learning to the full.



Jemima Napier: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Primary)

Jemima is a class teacher, maths lead and member of SLT at St Peter's Primary in Portishead. She trained as a Mastery Specialist in Cohort 3 and was lucky enough to be part of China-England exchange in 2018/19. Jemima is an SLE with the Lighthouse Schools Partership and was appointed as Assistant Maths Hub Lead from September 2021.

Linda Corbidge: Maths Hub Administrator

Linda’s role in the Maths Hub brings together her previous administrative background, in a large central Bristol secondary academy, and her vast experience working with both primary and secondary phase governance across the region. Linda has a genuine interest in the provision of excellent teaching, to ensure Maths is an accessible and an enjoyable experience for everyone.



Geraldine Pearce - Teaching for Mastery Administrator

Due to the success of our TfM Leads and Specialists, nearly 150 schools are participating in the Teaching for Mastery Programme and teacher research groups. As such Geraldine Pearce has joined the team as TfM Administrator and will be applying her previous admin and finance experience to this exciting new role.  Following her degree in Maths and Education Studies, Geraldine has a keen interest in helping the team to make mathematics enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

Ali Jones: Maths Hub Finance & Mastering Number Administrator

Ali is a key member of the Cabot Learning Federation Institute administrative team.  She works with the Maths Hub using her vast experience in administration and finance to help the team achieve their objectives to raise standards of Maths education across the hub region.
